Drawing comparisons to the almighty Skrillex is inevitable but aside from a first instance conclusion to that fact, the deeper you go into this EP the more you realize that this an entirely new take on Dubstep testament to this producers vision and ear.

Referencing ghetto-tech, classic hardcore (rave and punk) and formative jungle, every track, even the skits, justifies its place: from the torch-raising Banks-style leftfield ballad "Faces" through to the toxic waste bass and paranoia of "Guts/Bloods/Sex/Drugs" by way of the unadulterated rave mischief of "Please Please Please (Play This On The Radio)" and cosmiche bass of "Technoir", the whole album is detailed, precision articulated and full of surprises. A transcontinental duo, Mark McCann and Bart van Dijk met under bizarre circumstances. Mark ran a small independent record label in the UK, Bart played guitar in a Dutch hardcore punk band Deluge. Neither of them knew of each other’s existence. One morning Mark received Deluge’s album ‘Spot In The Shadow’. Unsolicited, to this very day he still doesn’t know who sent the CD to him. Pressing play, the band’s uncompromising energy and attitude instantly inspired him. He picked up the phone and organised a UK tour.

His label's first V/A collection since its evergreen Cosmology Sessions in 2017, it's another vast plane ripe in sonic depths and textures from some of the most left-minded, boundary-fusing captains in the bass game. Featuring two crucial link-ups from the bossman himself with two kindred spirits Djrum and Synkro plus a whole cosmic cornucopia of voyages from the likes of Danny Scrilla, J:Kenzo, Vromm and stacks more, every track is a highlight in its own beguiling way. No label flares with the same levels of dark vitality, there's more than enough for our brains to chew on right here.

Truth is on Deep, Dark and Dangerous for an EP that's, well, deep, dark and dangerous. That doesn't quite do the range of sounds and styles on this release full justice, however, as Truth stretches his legs across shuddering halftime, funky jungle and fluid rollers. 'Eyes On Me' is especially delectable, as a haunting vocal sample shimmers up into full view and perches above a juke-influenced, stepping halftime beat that strides out across the full track. 'Heartbreak' is a faster, heavier number that lends some heft to the release, whilst 'Pass Me By' is a lovely, soulful liquid number. This is one for the heads.
