Whatley comes through correct with his musical debut, but this is no surprise given Encrypted Audio's recent recruitment policies; the imprint only goes after the very best of the best across the enlarged 'bass' world. "Disconnect" grooves and rhymes majestically with its distant and fading piano keys, while "Beckoning" drops a much heavier load of bass dread amid that inherent musicality that seems to represent Whatley's style. "Madre", or mother, takes a much sparser approach to the whole equation, coming through with a stripped drum groove and a cold, airy gust of minimal sonics. A masterful first release from the new artist.
