Review: The Rat crew submit to the summer heat and drop the tempo for a super-smoochy disco-funk ass-shaker. Darrison's rep as the scene's most melodious MC remains intact. With such a smooth flow he complements both the juicy lolloping bassline and the bold, insistent strings. Need more hardcore welly? Head for Electric Soulside's swashbuckling old school rave breaks revision. Need a more rolling Ils style workout? Check out Breaking News' headnod to breakbeat's most golden era.

When it comes to bona fide garage MCs, Sparks is one of the top boys. His distinctive chatter helped "Fly Bi" become one of the UKG's most epoch-defining crossover tunes. For this authentic garage homage we find him going toe-to-toe with fellow mic luminaries Rubi Dan, Midas and many more, creating a sterling balance between nostalgia and future-thinking bass music. Remix-wise, label bosses Deekline & Ed Solo give it a modern day breakbeat reboot, Pure SX and Mutantbreakz add some cheeky slap bass into the mix and, last but definitely not least, Rennie Pilgrem does serious damage with a breakbeat tidal wave. Lift those shoulders now!

Taken from Deekline and Ed Solo's forthcoming Bounce 'n' Shake album, "Paella" gets a through going over from newcomers Dodge & Fuski, who give it a slap-in-the-face dubstep remake with some vicious attacking wobbles, and stripper who adds an electro-breaks flavour to the original. There's also a vocal version entitled "Gloria" which benefits hugely from the canny tones of Christina Nicola, while Hip Hop don Million Dollar Dan spits hyped verses over an upfront D&B version.

Sit tight in the place, because Deekline & Ed Solo are back with something a little different to get your bassbins humming. Hey Mr DJ features the vocal talents of regular Deekline collaborators Christina Nicola and Sporty-O for a track that's part balearic disco, part jackhammer ghetto house. Nicola struts her silky-toned stuff over sumptuous strings and funky med flavours, while Sporty flexes Miami bass style over a rough-house hipster blowout. Somehow it all works in the space of one track! On remix duties, Florida dubstep heroes AfroWhitey make with a heavy bass workout with plenty of their trademark euphoric synthwork and hip hop attitude, while ghetto funksters Dancefloor Outlaws drop the tempo and boost the funk for a tasty little block party-style jam. Finally, US production outfit KMFX take things on an anthemic booty breaks tip with plenty of cool keyboard work and extra helpings of that good 808 shit. A package to get you in the mood for summer whichever side of the world you're dropping beats on, Hey Mr DJ is also the perfect floorfiller for clubbers of all chromosome combinations. Sit back and enjoy the sunshine!

Two legends of the UK bass and breaks scene, Deekline and Ed Solo, team up with a legend of Miami booty bass on this new collaboration on Rat. DJ Assualt delivers the freaky sex rhymes on "Gimme", letting his flow sit over a chunky, speaker-rattling classic breaks beat from the Brits. Swedish electro outfit Audio Stalkers turn in a heavy tech makeover, while Brighton turntablist don JFB gets his scratch on over a jittery dubsteppin' backing on the remix front. A great meeting of minds and styles all round.
