Yair Etziony's first album under the TMUX moniker - last year's "State of Exception" - developed as the Berlin-based artist and False Industries boss was attempting to rationalize his experience of the COVID-19 lockdown. Seemingly trapped in a world with a dissolving future, he looked to his past as a drum & bass DJ and his love of 1990s IDM, garage and Detroit techno to guide his escape.
- On "Stars", there's less of a conceptual framework, but Yair again looks to his lifelong love of bass to inform the album's sonic landscape. More optimistic than its predecessor, "Stars" still retains a melancholy flavor that can be traced back to rave backrooms or chill-out spaces. Opening track 'Artificial Flavours (Euphoric Version)' illustrates this perfectly, with whimsical, minor-key pads wrapped around chugging chopped breaks like a comfort blanket.
'Kfar Saba' nudges the tempo down and conjures a sound that we can trace back to Andy Weatherall's loose, dubwise experimentation or Moby's dancefloor-friendly emotionality. 'Unsustainable' meanwhile heads into fractured post-dubstep territory, welding brickwall subs to glitchy 2-step rhythms that remind of T++, Bristol's Livity Sound label, or Yair's "Altered State" collaborator Appleblim.
- Dedicated to False Industries graphic designer and Yair's good friend Tuvia K, 'King Tubi' makes the 1990s references far more tangible, using a chunky, blunted break and molasses-slow acid funk to remind of a world where it felt like anything was possible. But the drum 'n bass influence is still the most pervasive sound on "Stars" - 'Wasteland' and the album's closing title track are Yair's most upfront tracks to date, harking back to the precise techstep sound of Virus Recordings and Renegade Hardware.

Vote for your favourite dubstep records, producers, labels and more. The “Dubstep Awards 2020″ should be considered best as a summary and celebration of the past year rather than a competition. Together with the expertise of our partners, we carefully selected nominees in 12 different categories, featuring content from the beginning of December 2019 up to the end of November 2020. The selection process and the entire Dubstep Awards are organised with total integrity and initiated by nothing but love for the 140 scene.
This year we are presenting the official dubstep awards for a 4th time. We believe this is an amusing way to let fans rediscover the year, while this initiative allows us as a promotional platform to introduce the authentic dubstep sound to a broader audience. In the end it is such exposure which keeps things moving forward. Although, the most important is the community aspect: giving people recognition for their hard work and contribution to the genre.
Voting started on the 13th and closed on the 23rd of December. A total of 40 360 individual votes have been registered. Hope you have enjoyed our online event and we see you next year!

As always with the Liondub International crew, we are in for an absolute cracker with this one as they unveil an 18 track vocal pack, exploring the super lively 'Soap Riddim', one of the most dancefloor-ready instrumental designs we have heard in years. The lineup they have managed to assemble for this collection is pretty outstanding, featuring the likes of Patexx, Javada, Suku Ward, Red Fox, Junior Dangerous and many more, all of whom deliver lively vocal performances. This is a perfect tape pack for any dancehall DJ looking to turn up the flavour in the dance, with our highlights being Daddy Freddy's highly energetic performance on 'Danger', next to Blackout JA & YT's vibrant back and forth display on 'Greatest Treasure'. You can pick and choose your favourites, but this is a riddim that is going to cause some real dancefloor damage!

Review: Since emerging from the dungeon in the last year, the deeper side of dubstep has really found its soul again. With the emphasis on groove rather than spacious sound design, there's some incredible music available again. And Croydon-based Dubtribu are one of the labels leading the charge, as proved by this epic track end-of-year collection: highlights across the exclusive cuts include Yin Yang Audio's siren-blaring sludge-stomper "Radiation Nation", Sirius's east-meets-west string-plucked skanks on "Fight" and Jackson's horn-heaving, classic early Rusko sounding funker "Solidarity". And that's just three killer examples from a potential 29. Dig deep on this one.
