Another crucial double header from prolific NYC bass specialist Kush Jones, this time backed up with strong versions from Manny powerhouse Anz, footwork futurist DJ Manny and Kush's Juke Bounce Werk cohort DJ Noir.
Kush Jones is feeding his city right now - 'Rugrats' and 'Basic Bass' are swift, no-nonsense bangers that exemplify why his name is synonymous with quality. Both feeding into jungle, Kush builds on the basic breaks 'n bass formula with a slippery American sense of timing and funk. 'Basic Bass' particularly lands Kush in a liquid realm with stuttering Omni Trio rolls and slippery PFM/Bukem pads that keep things tite in the outerzone.
Anz's version pushes hard into peak time, touching on a tuff slow breaks tempo and adding a speaker-penetrating bee sting bassline. DJ Manny comes off the wicked "Signals in my Head" album with a weighty, sub-heavy 'Rugrats' version that punches just right, while DJ Noir spikes 'Basic Bass' with some darkside energy. Yes.

Wow. Just wow. Just when you thought dubstep couldn't get murkier, shoutier and gnarlier, two of the scene's largest characters collide for one of the tune's most uncompromising tunes this year. Just listen to that vocal chant and tell us it hasn't inspired you to jump 20 feet tall and growl like an ambush of tigers. "Cadi" is just as moody but with added depth and mysticism as a belly-chanted call to prayer echoes with prominence and dominance. "Nebulizer" completes the package, and does so with alien mischief thanks to its barbed mechanical groove and interplanetary whooshes and washes. Somebody say 'mental business!'

Slow-mo acid and hardcore techno collide on this wholly unique and distinct debut by FAFF. Arriving through the Kouncil Cuts label which appeared on radars in 2019, the label pushes a homegrown electro, techno, acid and breakbeat sound. Interestingly, FAFF goes for slower house tempos in the jungle infused ambient number "The Last Piglette" while throwing down a sped-up Prince Of Denmark tune in "Dilate". "Fungus" represents a deep and dubby 909 kick (w/hats) alongside some added dubstep basslines, with label resident Mark Mackenzie giving the latter a crisp drum and bass, breakbeat ambient shakedown. This little piggy went to market.
