Review: Liquid Lab are coming into your ears once again with more lovely music, this time it's with Motiv, who has been in the game to know how to craft a proper liquid number. All five tracks on this EP rest comfortably within the funkier, more atmospheric end of the liquid spectrum, and they make ideal late night or early morning listening. The title tune is quintessential, with bubbling celestial synth lines that rest gingerly alongside a wonderfully subtle, rolling bassline that strolls along with the serious grace and decorum. 'On the Verge' features up and comer Charla Green on vocals and it has a main piano riff that's just superb in its soulfulness, a common and tangible theme throughout this release. Lovely stuff.

Review: An album from the Dutch master is always welcome, and A Little While Longer is Lenzman's latest foray into lounging, soulful drum and bass. It's world he leads, and all eight tracks on this LP ripple with the sophisticated funk and hip-hop influences him and his label are so known for. The first track, 'Lil Souljah', exemplifies this blend perfectly; a whimsical piano riff, a crunchy yet light set of rolling drums and a vocals perfectly peppered through the range by Slay, an MC who has been picking up serious steam in the scene these last few months. It's a team effort, as Danny Sanchez joins the melancholic euphoria of 'Gimmie A sec' and label regular Satl amps up the pressure on the sub-heavy 'Combo'. Another special album from a special producer.

Review: Rising Norwich newcomer Lankzi steps up in a major way on this fittingly titled EP 'Break Out'. Four tracks, four flavours, all badass; 'Break Out' starts the engine with a little tension and restraint on the super gully bassline sludge while 'Blow Dem' goes all-out jugular mode with its rattled breaks, distorted bass and ragga vocal. Elsewhere 'Why' manages to be stripped back and busy at the same time, thanks to the wild energy of the drums and less is more bassline, while 'Recall' closes the EP with some big old farty wobbles and grizzles. A really impressive early EP. Lankzi's one for the bank, see?

Review: Intrigue is one of the most consistent liquid labels in a drum and bass scene which has a conspicuous absence of high-quality, indie liquid imprints relative to the rougher side of things. This is their yearly album and it's on an astounding 18th year, a monumental achievement that is marked this time around with nineteen top quality cuts. Soulmotion's 'Moments of Blue' is a highlight, with a sumptuously deep back end that swells and swells to luxurious effect, as tinkling piano notes flutter through the top lines in nonchalant fashion. Label boss Ben Soundscape steps up for a remix of Raw Q's 'NY State of Mind', an Intrigue classic that he strips back and rolls out, with a supremely crisp set of drums that underpin a simple but sleek bassline. There are more cuts from Joakuim, whose halftime exploration takes him to deep depths, and The Insiders & Mutt, who get funky and old school with their liquid sounds. Sick stuff.
