Review: Over the years, Synkro has become pretty synonymous with the more experimental side of dubstep music, often infusing numerous different elements of garage and techno into his sounds to create an incredible array of exciting rhythmic designs. This brand new album project is the perfect way to showcase what we mean, featuring 19 tracks of pure creative bliss. From the bouncing drum grooves of 'Get Down' and punching synth kicks of 'Angels', through to the dubwise delights of 'Dub Specialist, we see Synkro explore so many different avenues of sound with this project, it's a genuine pleasure to behold, and that's before we even get into the fantastic selection of remixes. For us, highlights include the stunning percussive mastery of 'Lost For Words', alongside the beautiful vocal edits of 'Tell Me' and introspective pad textures of 'If Only'. Incredible stuff.

The team behind the Iron Shirt Recordings imprint have been on fire of late, with their catalogue constantly improving with incredible new releases, such as this powerful album from Internal Frequency by the name of 'Oasis'. A dubstep album is never an easy thing, variation is key, as is a sense of direction and movement, both of which are features that throughout the very heart of this selection. From the ethereal vocal textures of 'Lift The Veil', to the raucous synthesizer action of 'Sidewinder' to the percussive brilliance of 'Gaia', this project covers so much ground, it's quite remarkable. The quality levels are extremely high and each track runs as a solid standalone, but even better in the long play format we feel this album was intended for. For us, the clear highlights include the aquatic atmospheric textures of 'Lucid Dreams', the eastern inspired melodics of 'Mirage' and of course the powerful synthesis of 'Illusion'.

The phrase “shows no signs of slowing down” is almost an inside joke between music journalists at this point, but every so often, it bears truth. Subsidia, the new label launched by Excision in late 2020, dropped an astounding 120 tracks in its initial launch, and each collection has released at least two more volumes, with the exception of Dawn, which is still on its second. (Though you can be sure to expect the next one soon enough.)
Dusk: Vol. 3 just dropped today with 17 new tracks representing the wonkier bass side of the label, featuring names like Ruvlo, Ray Volpe, Blvk Sheep, MIRR.IMG, Carbin, and smaller names like Tabe B, UHNK, Xinister, ZIZI, and others.
