Review: Not to be confused with Mufasa's evil bitter brother in Lion King, Survival and Script's Scar alias is one of the flagship acts in Metalheadz premiership and this is their first new material since their pre-lockdown album High Fives & Devil Eyes. Heavyweight as ever, each track punches with both emotional and physical energy. Highlights include the toxic sludge bassline on 'Why', the pristine Good Looking dreaminess and gorgeous flutes on 'All I See' and the hurricane soul of the finale track with Ella Sopp 'Falling Down'. High grade material.

Review: Breakbeat, acid and electro vibes in the house from new school emerging act, Match Box. Delivering a third installment to the Who's Susan label, this six-track mini-LP ventures through deeper 303 basslines and Middle-Eastern tendencies in tracks like "Fluidum" and "Mutation Gamble" - which in particular holds down a new age feel that this EP fully represents. With breakbeat attitudes on show in numbers like "Amethist", trance inspirations also find their way through tremolo synth and vocal effects, with ambient and jungle tips to be found in a most lovely "Kafkaesque". "Rain Check", the title track here, delivers something as Clone West Coast series as it is '90s trance love. Old sounds, new heat.

Review: LMajor and Corporeal Face aka Local Group follow separate and collective releases on Furthur Electronix and Human Concrete Block with this EP for Lobster Theremin offshoot 10 Pills Mate. Steeped in the sounds of 90s hardcore, Big Beats... brings the listener through an array of sounds and moods. There's the raw break beat and chipmunk vocals of "Watch This Beat", while the release veers into a melange of hip-house vocals and sample-heavy elector on "Work That Thang". Most impressive however is "Rhythmic Trip", where the pair combine mysterious synths with evocative vocals over rolling breaks. Lastly Angel D'lite's remix of "Trip" pushes it towards the intersection of pop and happy hardcore.

Another crucial double header from prolific NYC bass specialist Kush Jones, this time backed up with strong versions from Manny powerhouse Anz, footwork futurist DJ Manny and Kush's Juke Bounce Werk cohort DJ Noir.
Kush Jones is feeding his city right now - 'Rugrats' and 'Basic Bass' are swift, no-nonsense bangers that exemplify why his name is synonymous with quality. Both feeding into jungle, Kush builds on the basic breaks 'n bass formula with a slippery American sense of timing and funk. 'Basic Bass' particularly lands Kush in a liquid realm with stuttering Omni Trio rolls and slippery PFM/Bukem pads that keep things tite in the outerzone.
Anz's version pushes hard into peak time, touching on a tuff slow breaks tempo and adding a speaker-penetrating bee sting bassline. DJ Manny comes off the wicked "Signals in my Head" album with a weighty, sub-heavy 'Rugrats' version that punches just right, while DJ Noir spikes 'Basic Bass' with some darkside energy. Yes.
